Location: Emerson Park (as of 2/15/26)
Size: About 0.5 acres
Status: Fully funded with $2.8 million state grant. PRC made minor ‘Final’ changes during late 2024 meetings; Another ‘final’ February, 2026 PRC meeting was held - A number of nearby neighbors and their friends were successful in convincing the PRC to direct staff to ask the State to remove the dog park element. The City will be making that request to the State in the next 30-60 days. Friends has submitted a letter to the State how important it is to keep a dog park at this location.
Next step: Waiting for the City to submit request to the State to change project, and for the State to determine if the City still qualifies for the grant with such removal. Should the dog park remain, construction would need to be completed in 2027 (City received an extension).
Construction start date: Unknown.
Proposed Amenities (if dog park remains in plan): Full perimeter fencing; interior fencing to create two separate areas for small dogs and large dogs; all-weather surfaces (mulch/wood chips); shading (built structures and trees); water stations; benches; tables.
